A homebrew rule for why frost-warband artillery misfires near brass terrain, written down before the group forgets why we added it — and before someone asks for the math again mid-session.
It started as a joke about a compass prop that kept "drifting" near a terrain piece, and turned into an actual table rule because it made the frost-warband's fluff make more sense: their guns run cold, brass terrain runs warm, and the two don't agree with each other.
The rule, as played
Any ranged attack from a Frostbound unit that targets through brass-terrain (forge ruins, boiler wrecks, that sort of thing) rolls one extra die for scatter, keeping the worst result. Not a nerf exactly — more a reason for players to fight around the forge ruins instead of just standing behind them.
It's a small rule. It's done more for how those two factions feel at the table than anything in the actual stat block. Worth remembering that the fluff can lead the crunch sometimes, not just the other way around.
Playtesting continues. So far nobody's complained, which for a homebrew rule is a genuinely good sign.
